YouTube Music has come a long way since its beginnings back in 2015. In its plight to fully replace the legacy Google Play Music service that many loved, it has slowly but surely been adding features to compete with the likes of Spotify and Apple Music. One of these features is downloading songs for offline listening, which is available only if you have a Youtube Music Premium membership.

How to download songs for offline listening

You can download songs, albums, and playlists in many different ways. For this tutorial, we will concentrate on how to download one specific song from your library. To start, while you still have an internet connection, pull up the song you want to download. Next, tap on the cover art and then tap on the Download icon, which will appear superimposed on the cover art. You will then see a confirmation on the bottom letting you know that the song is downloading.

I just want the steps!

1. While you still have an internet connection, pull up the song you want to download

2. Tap on the song’s cover art

3. Tap on the Download icon

How to listen to downloaded music when offline

To listen to your downloaded songs when you are offline or don’t have a strong enough signal, open Youtube Music, tap on the Library icon, and select Downloads. Scroll down to the All downloads section, and you should see your downloaded songs in their own category. Tap on Downloaded songs to access them.

1. Open Youtube Music and tap on Library icon

2. Tap on Downloads

3. Scroll down to the All downloads section, and tap on Downloaded songs

Google says that you will need to reconnect to the internet at least once every 30 days to maintain your downloads, and of course, the number of songs you can download will depend on the storage space available on your device. Otherwise, you may listen to your music to your heart’s content when driving through that tunnel or dead cellular zone.
